Being based in Guernsey, we enjoy the benefits and suffer the drawbacks of living on an island, and these are particularly apparent in times of difficulty – especially when a disaster befalls a small, isolated community. Whilst a hurricane or tsunami are risks that the majority of us won't face, a disaster can be created by many other factors as those in Boscastle, Buncefield or Carlisle discovered.
